It Was Just an Accident (2025) is a political thriller directed by Jafar Panahi about a former Iranian political prisoner, Vahid, who believes he has found his former torturer. Vahid kidnaps the man, leading to a tense, moral road trip to confirm the man’s identity, exploring themes of vengeance, trauma, and justice in Iran. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
