Published by ArtSpring

A photographic retrospective celebrating the remarkable breadth and quality of live music on Salt Spring Island in 2026, and the emotional range of the musicians who bring it to life. The exhibition brings together two distinctive photographic styles: the rich, saturated colours and intensity of live performance, and the quieter, more pensive world of Groove Noir, with its soft, cinematic tones and contemplative atmosphere. Both approaches share a philosophy of reduction, using light, colour, space and carefully controlled backgrounds to isolate the subject and draw attention to the essence of a moment. The result is a collection of images by Andy Doyle-Linden that seeks to evoke the experience of live music, and the intangible connection between performer, audience and place. Salt Spring Groove is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to celebrate, elevate and amplify the music scene on Salt Spring Island. Through photography, publications, exhibitions and community events, it showcases the musicians, venues and people who make the island’s music scene so vibrant.
