About Make 2026 the year to get to know the history, culture, and land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), in whose territory lies Nex̱wlélex̱wm (Bowen Island). Join this friendly book club, where we’ll be discussing Tiná7 Cht Ti Temíxw: We Come From This Land: a Walk Through the History of the Squamish People (2024), by the Squamish Nation. Coffee and snacks provided! This series is facilitated by Erica Olson, a marine ethnoecologist and PhD candidate who works supporting Indigenous stewardship and marine planning initiatives undertaken by Indigenous Nations with Provincial and/or Federal governments. It is also supported by Dr. Brenda Morrison of Simon Fraser University. Both have experience working in collaboration with the Squamish Nation. Book Club Dates We will be reading this book over six meetings, covering the six sections of the book throughout 2026. We encourage you to read the selected section before attending, but all attendees are welcome, no matter where you get to in the book, (or even if you haven’t yet read it but would like to be inspired to!) Register to come to one, some, or all the meetings in this year-long book club. Please register for each book club date in the series that you would like to attend, so we know how many to expect. Currently planned dates: Saturday, September 12, 11:30-1:00 — we’ll discuss Part Four. We will have further meetings every two months.
